Today’s announcement of the lifting of many restrictions prohibiting tourism businesses from operating has been welcomed by Tourism Council WA.
Tourism Council WA has been working closely with the State Government to advocate for restrictions impacting tourism businesses to be eased alongside eased travel restrictions.
“Today represents a great step forward for WA’s tourism industry and will result in a significant opening up of tourism attractions and experiences across WA,” Mr Hall said.
The announcement includes the reopening of attractions, including museums, galleries and Rottnest Island, and on-site accommodation services such as spas, swimming pools, communal facilities and recreation activities, and allows for alcohol to be served without a meal when patrons are seated. The four-square metre per person rule has been reduced to two square metres per person for affected places, with the number of patrons per area increased from 20 to 100, with a maximum capacity of 300 per property or venue.
“The changes announced today, particularly the reduction of space per person to two square metres, will make it viable for tourism businesses to reopen and welcome visitors once again,” Mr Hall said.
“The reduction of restrictions on tourism attractions, experiences and hospitality venues is a bold step forward well ahead of other states. This will help save jobs, particularly in regional tourism businesses and towns.
“As people begin to move across Western Australia according to eased travel restrictions, there will now be more experiences available to them as more tourism businesses reopen.
“I congratulate the State Government on today’s announcement and supporting the tourism industry.”
