AusBiotech 2022 programme launched

The has launched and profiles five keynotes and 40 engaging panel sessions highlighting the pressing and emerging topics facing the Australian and global biotech sector.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the 2002 Bali bombings, keynote Professor Fiona Wood AM, Director, Burns Service of WA & Director, Burn Injury Research Unit UWA will share The story of spray-on skin cells, and how it has contributed to her patients’ lives and the global biotech industry.

This technology was produced from one of Professor Woods’ early achievements, which was the development of a skin culture lab that she co-founded with scientist Marie Stoner in 1993; with support from a Telethon Kids Institute grant.

Opening AusBiotech 2022, Millis Orator Professor Marvin Caruthers, Distinguished Professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder will address Biotechnology industry transformation through ground-breaking DNA synthesis chemistry.

The Millis Oration is named in honour of ‘s contribution to the industry, and is held annually at the AusBiotech conference together with continuous support from CSL. The Oration is a focal point of the annual industry gathering and is appropriately named in honour of this pioneer of Australia’s biotechnology industry.

Keynote Dr Lisa Haile, Partner, DLA Piper, will present on The nexus of science and intellectual property and its impact on shaping the biotech sector globally. Dr Haile will address the global trends and implications of IP law on innovation, from the perspective of a world-leading expert in patent protection and strategy, who started as a microbiologist.

AusBiotech 2022 is run by industry, for industry; and for more than three decades it has created a forum to reflect on the sector’s achievements and exchange ideas to further advance the industry. This year’s programme features an all-day ag-biotech summit, the Early-Stage Investment Forum, conference gala dinner, and plenty of informal networking opportunities.

Biotech’s biggest week also includes , Australia’s pre-eminent life science investment event, which will run concurrently on 27 October 2022. Australia’s biotech industry presents a compelling opportunity for investors and international partners, and it will encourage delegates to invest in health.
