Australia-India Council Grants

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne

Each year the Australia-India Council (AIC) awards grants to projects that build awareness and deepen understanding between Australia and India, further promoting stronger connections between our two countries.

Today I announce this year’s AIC grant recipients for projects which will build new innovative linkages and provide sustainable collaborations between Australia and India.

The AIC has awarded $689,000 to 11 successful projects around Australia, including:

  • Western Sydney University which will hold a series of workshops for Australian and Indian women social entrepreneurs on innovative and sustainable social business models;
  • The Australian ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ University to facilitate an Indian version of its Young Persons’ Plan for the Planet program, which will educate, connect and empower school students to collaborate internationally on delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals; and
  • OzAsia Festival which will partner with Jaipur Literature Festival to deliver a three-day festival in Adelaide celebrating the heritage of India through stories.
  • Genesis Horticultural Services which will work with Indian experts to create an Australian Horticulture Centre of Excellence in India, providing training services in hydroponics.

I would like to thank all 166 organisations that applied for AIC grants in 2019. A full list of successful grant recipients is available on the Australia-India Council’s .

Today’s announcement coincides with a meeting of the India Economic Strategy (IES) Ministerial Champions. The IES is an important roadmap to position Australian businesses to seize the opportunities for enhanced economic engagement between our two countries.
