The second Australia-New Zealand 2+2 Climate and Finance Ministers Dialogue was held in Brisbane on 30 July 2024. Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen, Minister of Finance Nicola Willis and Minister of Climate Change Simon Watts all attended the Dialogue.
To mark this occasion Australian and New Zealand Governments issued a joint statement ( | )
In the statement, Ministers acknowledged the need for urgent yet orderly action to tackle climate change. Key priorities for both countries include working in partnership:
- on the rapid and effective global response to climate change needed in this critical decade
- with Pacific partners to ensure the resilience and prosperity of the region
- to capitalise on the significant economic opportunities the global energy transformation presents.
Australia and New Zealand have a long history of collaboration. Managing climate change is a collective challenge. International partnership is key to addressing it. The annual 2+2 Dialogue encourages continued leadership and collaboration on climate change.
