Australia Post helps Big Issue kick off 2023

Australia Post

Following a successful trial, long-standing community partner and non-for-profit organisation, The Big Issue has designated Australia Post as its briefing base in Melbourne and Perth to assist disadvantaged Australians selling the magazine.

The Big Issue has released its second edition for 2023 which means briefings are in full swing with Big Issue sellers (also known as vendors) welcomed into Australia Post today to hear all about the latest edition over breakfast.

Magazine launches and briefings will now be held every fortnight at Australia Post’s 111 Bourke Street office and at 249 Hay Street, East Perth. These briefings are an important opportunity for vendors to feel connected to their community[1].

Australia Post Executive General Manager, Community, Sustainability and Stakeholder Engagement, Tanny Mangos said The Big Issue plays an important role in building resilience in people experiencing marginalisation, homelessness, and disadvantage.

“Promoting community connection and resilience is one of our key priorities at Australia Post. We’re proud to not only give The Big Issue a space in our offices to regroup and feel connected, but also offer a number of our Post Offices as collection points for vendors to pick up their magazines and support them in earning income from meaningful work.

“We’ve been a proud partner of The Big Issue for the past 26 years and we encourage all Australians who walk by their friendly-faced Big Issue vendor to give a smile, say hello and buy a magazine this year in support of some of our most vulnerable Australians,” Ms. Mangos said.

The Big Issue Editor, Amy Hetherington said: “The Big Issue is only as big as the community behind it – and Australia Post has been an integral part of this community for more than 26 years, showing support to The Big Issue from day one.

“Since inception, Australia Post has provided immeasurable support as a distribution point for vendors purchasing magazines. Vendors purchase the magazine for $4.50 and sell for $9, earning a meaningful income. We are now excited to host our new edition magazine launches at Australia Post Offices every fortnight.”
