Australia Post partners with Beyond Blue to champion mental health
At a time when mental health and wellbeing has never been more important, Australia Post and Beyond Blue have formed a national partnership to help Australians stay mentally well and build stronger, more connected communities.
The partnership seeks to make mental health and wellbeing part of everyday conversations and connect people to the support and information available through Beyond Blue.
Australia Post Executive General Manager Community & Consumer, Nicole Sheffield said Australia Post was incredibly proud to be a partner of Beyond Blue and spoke of a partnership that will resonate with the Australian community and Australia Post’s extended workforce of over 75,000.
“When we asked our people what they wanted us to focus on in the community space, mental health and wellbeing was the leading response,” Ms Sheffield said.
“Australia Post is committed to helping build strong and connected communities; the Post Office is the central hub in over 4000 locations Australia-wide. We know that when we connect we feel better and we are so proud of the role we play in facilitating millions of connections between Australians each year.
“Our vast network allows us to bring Beyond Blue’s resources and information into more communities and encourage discussions that support mental health and wellbeing across Australia.”
“Since 2019, we have delivered information about NewAccess – a free coaching service developed by Beyond Blue – to more than 1.1 million households nationally,” Ms Sheffield concluded.
Beyond Blue Chief Executive Officer Georgie Harman said the partnership has given more people access to information about how to maintain good mental health and connect with support services at a time when it’s been needed most.
“Beyond Blue has experienced unprecedented demand for support this year, primarily as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and last summer’s bushfires,” Ms Harman said.
“Our partnership with Australia Post has already allowed us to connect with more people and Beyond Blue is grateful for Australia Post’s distribution of information about our Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service to 120,000 households and within more than 400 Post Offices across Australia this year.
“The events of 2020 have reminded us just how important it is to support one another. Now more than ever, we know connections play a crucial role in coping with life’s challenges and we are thrilled to be partnering with Australia Post.”
To further support discussions about mental health and make it easier for Australians to connect with each other in a meaningful way, Australia Post has created a stamp release titled, ‘When we connect, we feel better’.
The stamp aims to support connection by encouraging customers to purchase the stamp in pairs: the sender simply uses one stamp to post the letter and includes the second in the envelope so the recipient can easily write back. The specially marked stamps are available in store at participating Post Offices and online.
Australia Post will also be announcing its 2020 Community Grants recipients in October. This year’s program has an emphasis on supporting projects that help improve connection and mental wellbeing in local communities.
