Australia’s Only Nationwide Mental Health Songwriting Competition

The winner of Australia’s only nationwide mental health songwriting competition will be revealed at Sydney venue The Factory this Thursday 28 November.

Now in its fourth year, The Songwriting Prize is a songwriting competition with a mental health focus. Every year music charity hosts a nationwide songwriting competition inviting musicians to write and submit an original song in response to a mental health theme. The theme for 2019 is “songs that heal” and music from all genres and categories were encouraged.

The Listen Up Music judges shortlist ten songs from each region to perform at a Regional Semi-Final. The top three performances from each Semi-Final then go on to perform at the Grand Final in Sydney, with one winner taking out The Songwriting Prize for 2019.

Over the years, The Songwriting Prize has seen hundreds of musicians come through these songwriting competitions, including Tempus Sun, SEB MONT and Leonie Kingdom.

The winner of the competition will receive a stack of amazing prizes, including one full day in a studio to record their winning entry professionally courtesy of Studios 301, a professional audio equipment prize pack courtesy of Audio-Technica and lots more.

Listen Up Music is a mental health and music organisation founded by Ali Taylor and Hank Paul, two Australians who are passionate about music and mental health. Their mission is to harness music’s unique ability to unite and heal through initiatives like The Songwriting Prize, and provide services that educate and equip individuals about music. Listen Up Music hosts a series of music-focused events and services that build community, facilitate storytelling and promote healing.
