The Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) is calling on young Australian researchers working in forest sciences focussed on the pulp and paper sector, to nominate for the 3rdBlue Sky Young Researchers Innovation Award.
Introduced in 2016 and held every two years the award recognises excellence in forest research from around the world. From the global entries three will be chosen by an international judging panel during the International Council of Forests and Paper Association’s (ICFPA) CEO Global Roundtable. Those winners will present their entries to the CEOs.
The judging for the Australian entrants is being co-ordinated by AFPA, with three finalists to be chosen.*
The Chief Executive Officer of AFPA Ross Hampton is encouraging all young researchers working in the pulp and paper sector to get their entries in.
“These are prestigious awards and it’s a great opportunity to show that young Australian researchers are as good, if not better, than any from around the world,” Mr Hampton said.
“If you are involved in using forest-based materials as the basis of a research project to value add to the pulp and paper chain, then here is an opportunity to share your work with a group of industry leaders who want to hear about your work. I also would encourage all industry members to seek out and encourage their researchers to be part of this.”
Applicants need to be students or other researchers under 30 years of age carrying out research innovation projects relevant the Australian pulp and paper industry. They can be in academia, at a public or private research centre or company research or innovation department.
“We’re doing some great forest research work in Australia and it deserves global recognition. So if you’re working on a project, or know someone who is, encourage them to enter,” Mr Hampton concluded.
