Australia Set To Host 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships

Department of Health

The 2025 International Canoe Federation (ICF) Canoe Slalom World Championships are heading to Australia for the first time since 2005. More than 300 competitors from 50 nations are expected to take part.

The event will take place over 1-6 October at Penrith Whitewater Stadium. It marks the 25th anniversary of the event at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

It will feature 10 medal events including Canoe and Kayak singles (C1 and K1), Canoe and Kayak Teams, and Kayak Cross.

The Championships offer the chance to see our Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic gold medal heroes compete on the world stage in our own backyard.

Competitors include Jess Fox OAM and Noemie Fox who captured our hearts at the recent Olympics by becoming the first Australian siblings to claim individual Olympic golds.

The sisters were announced as shared winners of The Don Award at the recent Sport Australia Hall of Fame inductions and awards dinner. The Don Award honours an Australian athlete or team whose achievements and example over the past 12 months have most inspired the nation.

Seeing Jess and Noemie in action will inspire more women and girls to be active, play sport and have the chance to be the next Australian sporting role model.

Hosting this event will encourage competitive and recreational participation in paddle sports within the Australian community. Participating in sport provides improved health and well-being and builds valuable social connection.

The warmer months are a great opportunity to try a paddle sport such as ocean racing, canoe or stand-up paddle boarding. Learn more about the different types of paddle sports and find a paddle club near you.

We are proud to support the 2025 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. This event is a welcome addition to the green and gold decade of major international sporting events in Australia. Check out the other major sporting events coming down under!
