Three WA Police Force officers have recently been awarded with Australian Bravery Awards by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove.
The Australian Bravery Decorations recognise acts of bravery in other than warlike situations, by people who put themselves in jeopardy to protect the lives or property of others.
Senior Constable Stephanie BOCHORSKY (now Armadale Police) has been awarded a Star of Courage for displaying conspicuous courage for the rescuing of two young children from a house in Doubleview in August 2015.
During the incident, a young girl was covered in fuel and set alight while her sister had petrol poured onto her. Without regard for her own safety, Senior Constable BOCHORSKY confronted their father and removed the girls from the house before administering first aid.
Constable Jeremy FORSTER (Bunbury Police) and 1/C Constable Kurt McKAIN (now Albany Police) received Commendations for Brave Conduct for an incident in Koombana Bay in January 2016.
Both officers located a woman in a distressed state in the water after she was reported missing. Shortly after, the woman had become subconscious and submerged.
On reaching the woman, the officers pulled her to the surface and returned her to the shore on a boogie board. They then commenced resuscitation until paramedics arrived. The woman has now recovered.
