Australian Football Skool Shepparton Cup Cancelled

One of Greater Shepparton’s largest football participation events, the Australian Football Skool Shepparton Cup will be cancelling this year’s competition.

The junior soccer competition which has taken place in Shepparton for the past six years has announced today the 2020 competition will not take place due to the COVID-19 Victorian restrictions.

The organising committee were exploring different options on how to deliver another successful AFS Shepparton Cup in October said event director Rolando Navas.

“The impact of COVID-19 and the latest Victorian restrictions including lock-downs in metropolitan Melbourne have had a direct impact on the ability to plan for events, competitions and programs and with no clear direction on when restrictions will be lifted we have decided to cancel this year’s event,” Mr Navas said.

The Australian Football Skool plans to return to Shepparton in October 2021.

“We are committed to hosting the event next year in Shepparton and continue our strong relationship with the Greater Shepparton City Council for many years to come,” Mr Navas said.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Seema Abdullah said Council would look forward to seeing the event return next year.

“Greater Shepparton has hosted the major event for six years now and we value the long term partnership we have with the AFS organisers and seeing the event continue to grow over the years,” Cr Abdullah said.

“It is important we focus on the health and safety of our community and visitors and although we cannot accommodate the competition this year, we hope to see it return in 2021.”
