Australian foreign minister to visit Morocco, Ghana and South Africa

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

This week I will travel to Morocco, Ghana and South Africa to advance Australia’s foreign policy, security and economic interests in Africa.

The Australian Government is reinvigorating our relationships in Africa, and this will be the first visit to the African continent by an Australian Foreign Minister or Assistant Foreign Minister since 2016.

African nations are influential voices on matters of importance for Australia, our region and the world.

Africa also represents important trade diversification opportunities for Australian companies.

During my visit, I will advocate for our shared interests in a rules-based international system and partnerships to help combat global terrorism, violent extremism and the threats of cyber security and transnational crime.

I will discuss practical climate change action and identify ways to strengthen our cooperation with African partners in agricultural development, renewable energy, and science and technology.

I will also use my visit to promote Australia’s capabilities in education and green energy, and the expansion of existing mining and energy investment into high potential industries, such as critical minerals processing.

I look forward to listening to government ministers, community leaders, the business community and multilateral organisations, discussing our shared interests, and growing Australia’s connections with African nations.
