Australian Referees on FIFA Panel of International Referees for 2020

Football Federation Australia (FFA) is pleased to announce that 26 Australian Match Officials have been selected on the FIFA Panel of International Referees for 2020.

Alex King will join the FIFA Men’s Referee Panel for the first time, which caps off a stellar year for the Queenslander who also became a full-time Hyundai A-League referee this season.

King will referee the first Hyundai A-League match of 2020 between the Western Sydney Wanderers FC and Brisbane Roar FC at Bankwest Stadium tomorrow evening.

King was ecstatic to receive the news of his prestigious appointment.

“Initially, I had a huge feeling of relief when I was first told that I had been awarded my FIFA referees badge and then elation after I realised that all the hard work had finally paid off,” said King.

“It’s every referees goal to achieve this status and I am grateful that I have now made it to this level.

“I would like to thank my Mum and Dad for supporting me since I started out as a 13 year old and also for the support I have received from my professional match official colleagues over the years who helped me become the referee I am today.

“I am really looking forward to the next phase of my career at the international level,” conculded King.

FFA Chairman and Chair of the FFA Referees Committee, Chris Nikou, congratulated all the match officials on their appointment.

“This is another fantastic achievement for our very talented match officials,” said Nikou.

“A special congratulations also goes to Alex King who receives his first FIFA badge which is the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication.

“We look forward to seeing all our match officials on the world stage once again throughout 2020,” concluded Nikou.
