Australian U23 Women’s squad announced for Brisbane Training Camp

Australian U23 Women’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Team head coach Melissa Andreatta has named 22 players to a training camp hosted in Brisbane next week.

Taking place from 8 – 21 May, the assembly will be the first for the team in 2023 and will be held at the CommBank Matildas’ FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ Team Base Camp, Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre.

Andreatta expressed her anticipation of the domestic-based U23 squad coming together.

“Watching their strong performances over the 2022/23 A-League Women’s season fills me with excitement to bring this group together for another training camp,” Andreatta said.

“The U23 program was introduced to provide the education and support to these players to assist them in making the step to senior international football. A lot has changed since we last met and I have been impressed with how they have grown over the past 12 months and gained invaluable match minutes in their club environments.”

All 22 members of the squad for the training camp played in the recent A-League Women’s season with nine different clubs represented from across Australia. Six members of the Sydney FC squad that completed the A-League Women’s 2022/23 Premiership and Championship double have been selected with another two players from Grand Finalists Western United. There are also four players from the rosters of the other finalists Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City.

“This is a really talented squad of players, and it highlights just how many excellent players are coming through nationally due to the work of the Member Federations and NPL clubs,” Andreatta continued.

“The selection of the squad is a testament to the work of the players themselves but also to the coaches and A-League Women’s clubs who continue to play an important role in the development of high potential players. The depth and potential within the selected squad puts Australia football on a strong footing going forwards.”

“Over the next fortnight our focus will be on continuing to harness that potential and work with the players to either introduce or update them on our national team style, witness up close the super factors that we can assist in honing and importantly giving the players a chance to play and learn together following the conclusion of the club season,” she concluded.

Following a short break, all selected players will arrive for the training camp on Monday, 8 May.
