Backing In Our Young Artists

Tasmanian Government

Young Tasmanians will now have more opportunities to pursue their creative dreams and activate a career in the arts industry, thanks to a new $1 million Tasmanian Government youth arts program.

Minister for the Arts, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the funding would provide an outlet for arts engagement and creativity, while encouraging more young Tasmanians to take up a career in the arts sector.

“We know the cultural value and significance Tasmanians get from art, and it’s important we continue to provide opportunities for more people to unlock their artistic potential,” said Minister Ogilvie.

“An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is about developing stronger communities and delivering creative sector opportunities across the State.

“That is why we are committed to delivering greater avenues for young Tasmanians to follow their dreams through a career in the arts.”

The program, to be rolled out over two years, will deliver a range of grant and industry initiatives across Tasmania.

Key components of the program include:

This is in addition to $120,000 of existing funding, which will be redirected to support an initiative for young and emerging Tasmanian musicians and industry professionals, including developing and delivering a program of activity using the facilities of the Hedberg for school-aged students.
