The City of Ballarat is celebrating another successful Victorian YOUTH FEST, which has shone a light on the achievements and contributions of local young people in Ballarat and across Victoria.
Multiple events have been held as part of the 2023 event, with hundreds of young people in Ballarat participating in a range of programs.
The free programs included exercise classes, art workshops, photography classes, Food is Free sustainability sessions in Barkly Square and making your own terrariums in Wendouree.
At the Sebastopol Library on Wednesday, a DIY Worm Farm and plaster art program was held featuring live music – all led and delivered by local young people.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said YOUTH FEST was a terrific way to engage Ballarat’s younger residents during the school holidays.
“Our Youth Services team has created a brilliant partnership with young people to ensure that our youth can reach their full potential and navigate their transition from childhood to adulthood,” he said.
“It is events like this that shine a spotlight on the vibrant energy and creativity of young people while providing a platform for their voices to be heard.
“There are almost 20,000 people aged 12 to 25 in Ballarat, so it’s crucial we acknowledge they are not only the future, but very much the present.”
YOUTH FEST is presented by the City of Ballarat and supported by a State Government grant.
Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman said the State Government was proud to be able to fund programs such as Ballarat’s YOUTH FEST, with more than $200,000 in grants given out across the state.
“Youth Fest funding ensures young people across our state can host events that showcase their talents and provide opportunities to make connections within their local communities,” she said.
