Ballarat reaffirmed its position as an events destination with almost 50,000 locals and visitors drawn to major arts and sporting events over the weekend.
White Night delivered its largest regional program ever, with an estimated crowd of 40,000 enjoying the expanded footprint of art, light and performance against the backdrop of Ballarat’s historic and iconic buildings.
Figures just in also show A League soccer and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Rugby matches played in Ballarat, coupled with Ballarat Football Netball Grand Final Saturday, drew a further 7,000 people to our sporting stadiums and grounds.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh described it as a thriving weekend of enthralling events that activated our city and captivated a diverse group of audiences.
“Our events calendar just keeps getting bigger and better with new and innovative ways of showcasing our City and attracting major events to our premium venues,” she said.
One of the greatest strengths of White Night was its capacity to incorporate 60 works featuring local, national and international artists.
One of the many performances to attract capacity audiences all night was Action-Reaction. This was done in partnership with students of the Girls in STEM program at Ballarat Tech School at the Old Sherriff’s Office.
The internationally acclaimed Foto Biennale also continued to attract crowds over the weekend with reduced admission fees for locals to the Art Gallery Ballarat.
White Night Creative Director, David Atkins OAM congratulated Ballarat, on its third presentation of White Night, saying it had once again shown what an incredibly diverse, creative city we are.
