Balnarring Recreation Reserve is undergoing new design works taking the beloved local footy ground to local AFL standards.
The new oval design is being drawn up to include improved surface conditions and infrastructure of the existing oval, providing a safe, accessible and high-quality sporting ground for sporting user groups and the local community.
The new AFL standard ground will ensure Balnarring Recreation Reserve can continue to be a place where football and cricket teams and the local community come together to build relationships and play the sport they love.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn says Council is in full support of this project, recognising the importance of quality sporting venues across the Shire.
“Council is really pleased to see Balnarring Recreation Reserve getting an upgrade”, said Cr Hearn.
“Sport is such a fundamental part of our culture and with the recent Coronavirus lockdown of competitive sport, we know our community are more excited than ever to bring sport back into our homes”.
Red Hill Ward Councillor David Gill also shares his support for the oval upgrades, saying these works give our local sporting teams something to look forward to.
“Recent times have been hard on local sporting teams and these works will be a great reward to our community who have been waiting patiently to step back out onto the field”, says Cr Gill.
“The current Coronavirus pandemic has made us all appreciate being able to catch up with family and friends. Upgrading the oval to support our local football and cricket teams will mean our community have a fresh new place to come together and enjoy grassroot sports”, concluded Cr Gill.
