It is the last weekend for Townsville’s thrifty shoppers to grab a bargain as part of the 2023 Garage Sale Trail.
Townsville City Council has supported the national event which gives locals the opportunity to register to sell items around their homes for reuse.
Water and Resource Recovery Committee chairperson Russ Cook said there were more than 40 registered sales for this weekend.
“The Garage Sale Trail is a popular event across the country and helps to give items a new lease of life, reduce the number of items going to landfill and allows people to find some truly unique and wonderful items,” Cr Cook said.
“Some of the sales this weekend includes Pokémon cards, pop culture items, costumes, fitness equipment, plants, pots, homewares, kids’ toys and more.
“There’s more than 3,500 items for sale across Townsville so locals should be able to find something they are after.”
Support for the Garage Sale Trail is one of the initiatives Council has backed to reduce the number of items going to landfill.
“Through programs like our education campaigns, landfill diversion practices, and innovations in resource recovery we were able to divert more than 102,000 tonnes of material from going to landfill in the last financial year,” Cr Cook said.
“We know our community supports our goal to create a circular economy that benefits businesses and moves our city towards a zero-waste future.
“By backing programs like the Garage Sale Trail, we can further help promote that message.”
