Barkly Regional Deal – Design Tender Released for the Tennant Creek Visitor Park

5 August 2022

A design tender has been released for the Tennant Creek Visitor Park, a lighthouse project within the Barkly Regional Deal (BRD).

The Visitor Park responds to the need for more short-term, alternative and affordable accommodation for people travelling to Tennant Creek for cultural, health or social reasons.

Once constructed, the Visitor Park will provide safe, secure and alcohol free accommodation for visitors to Tennant Creek from remote aboriginal communities and ouststations.

Located on the corner of Leichhardt Street and Udall Road, the Visitor Park will comprise of different types of accommodation including open, grassed camping areas and large covered shelters for swags and cabins. The design phase will investigate the appropriate accommodation mix to meet the estimated demand throughout the year and possible future expansion of the facility.

The design and construction phase is being funded by the Australian Government with all ongoing operational funding provided by the Northern Territory Government.

Quotes attributed to the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Natasha Fyles:
