It’s not good enough for fledgling Minister for Health Guy Barnett to try and shirk responsibility for access to healthcare in Bridgewater and surrounds after the closure of Greenpoint Medical Services.
While the Federal Government provides GP rebates, providing access to primary health care is a State Government responsibility.
Unfortunately the Liberal Government isn’t taking this responsibility seriously, with Minister Barnett trying far harder to wash his hands of the issue than to find a solution.
The area serviced by Greenpoint Medical Services is one of the most vulnerable communities in the country.
The 8,000 patients the centre sees need support, not buck-passing.
If a solution isn’t found quickly, pressure will only build on the Royal Hobart Hospital and our paramedic service, both of which are already at breaking point.
By not stepping in to act, Guy Barnett and the Liberal Government are showing they don’t care about Bridgewater and surrounds, and they don’t care about health.
