Launceston basketballers will be able to play with more than $318,000 worth of new backboards as part of the latest round of the Tasmanian Active Infrastructure Grants Program.
Minister for Sport and Events, Nic Street, said the Launceston Basketball Association has been awarded a $318,276 grant to ensure competition standard backboards are in use for training and competition at its venues including Elphin Sports Centre and various local schools.
“Under the Tasmanian Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, our Government is investing in local sporting facilities to ensure that our players have the facilities they need to play on,” Minister Street said.
A diverse range of sports will benefit from the large stream of the popular grants program, administered by Active Tasmania.
“More than $4.1 million will be shared between 21 Tasmanian sport organisations to develop new infrastructure and to upgrade existing infrastructure,” Minister Street said.
“These upgrades are designed to ensure that sport and active recreation facilities across the state continue to be able to meet demand, are accessible and welcoming to everyone, and contribute to keeping our communities active, connected and inclusive.
“In the South, Clarendon Vale Oval will get upgraded lighting worth $310,700 and the Huon Valley PCYC will use $217,887 to upgrade changerooms including toilets and showers.
“And in the North-West, $201,599 will be spent on lighting at Currie Oval on King Island and $495,000 will go towards a new irrigation system at Ulverstone Golf Club.”
