Baylor College of Medicine and are racing into classrooms with Science of Speed, the seventh in a series of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum guides. The Science of Speed guide is designed to be used with the .
Developed by the at Baylor, the free curriculum guide is divided into seven lessons for elementary and middle school-aged learners and uses the Hess Flatbed Truck With Hot Rods as a tool to teach about transportation and principles of STEM. The guide is available for free download on the .
“Each year, we relish the opportunity to imagine how the newest Hess Toy Truck, with all of its interactive features, can be used to teach real-world STEM concepts,” said , chair of the and director of the Center for Educational Outreach at Baylor. “When children learn hands-on, they develop deeper understanding and begin to think about the many career options that are available in STEM fields.”
Hess will also give away 1,000 free STEM kits to teachers for use in their classrooms. Each kit includes 12 of the Flatbed Truck With Hot Rods along with the Science of Speed STEM curriculum guide. Hess is accepting applications for the STEM kits from teachers through Dec. 31 at . Chosen applicants will be notified in January and the toy trucks will be delivered in February.
The 2022 Hess Flatbed Truck is a vintage transport carrier with two hot rod racers. The Flatbed Truck is freewheeling and features flashing lights, four realistic sounds (engine start, horn, hydraulic sliding ramp and hot rod racing) and a slide-out ramp at the rear that enables loading and unloading of the two hot rods that fit in the flatbed. The Hot Rods, one green and one red, have working lights and feature powerful pull-back spring motors that race in flat or wheelie positions.
