During last night’s Glen Eira City Council meeting, our neighbouring Councillors approved the proposal for Bayside City Council to provide in-home support services for Glen Eira residents. This decision came after extensive consultation with their community and staff and was made in response to the Australian Government’s aged care reforms.
Under the arrangement, we will provide the same high-quality council-run care Glen Eira know and value.
Bayside Mayor Councillor Fiona Stitfold welcomed the announcement, adding that Glen Eira and Bayside City Council will now focus on planning to successfully transition the services from November 2024.
“Bayside’s expansion recognises the strong reputation we have in delivering aged care services and reinforces the strong commitment that we have in providing services to our ageing community for the long-term,” Cr Stitfold said.
Plans are underway to have Glen Eira aged care services operating from a dedicated site within Glen Eira. Bayside residents will continue to receive services at the same level and to the same excellent quality they are accustomed to. Bayside ratepayers will not be subsidising aged care services to Glen Eira.
Bayside Care and Support is now one of three Melbourne metropolitan councils who have made a decision to continue to deliver independent living, aged care services when the aged care reforms are fully implemented. We have delivered services for more than 50 years and we have a strong and trusted reputation within the community and have developed invaluable expertise in the sector.
The agreement between Bayside and Glen Eira will ensure continuity of high-quality care; continued availability of council-led services into the future, and employment opportunities for existing staff.
Both councils will collaborate to maintain the highest level of care for older residents in both Bayside and Glen Eira, fostering an inclusive, active, healthy, connected and creative experience for all.
