Young Bayside artists have been celebrated in an annual exhibition and award ceremony held at Bayside City Council last week.
Now in its 19th year, the Young People of Bayside Art Exhibition is a highlight of Bayside’s Arts calendar, showcasing the high calibre sculptures, paintings, drawings and photography of young people aged from 10 to 25 who contribute to vibrant artistic life of the City of Bayside.
More than 130 entries were received this year on the theme of connecting young people through art. The works have been on display at Council’s Sandringham Corporate Centre for the past month.
Awards were presented to winners and runners up in three age categories and an overall Bayside Youth Committee Choice Award at an event last night.
Bayside Mayor Cr Michael Heffernan said the young artists had created pieces discussing mental health, the impacts of social media, our joint responsibilities to protect the environment and how creating art created friendships.
“The awards provide an opportunity for young people to participate in the creative life of our community and has become an annual celebration of their talent and dedication.
“We all benefit from having a connected community and ensuring that all members feel respected and celebrated.”
This year’s winners are:
Primary School Winner: Zoe Cochlan, Natures View
Runner up: Isla Giles, Skate Your Heart Out
Middle School Winner: Helen Vũ, The Blue
Runner up: Samantha North, Quiet Contemplation
Open Age Winner: Dan Nav, Modern Repression
Runner up: Lucy Simpson, My World
Bayside Youth Committee Award: Alia van der Straaten, Dear Future
