Bayside Youth Forum

Bayside’s first Youth Forum, held in the Botany Town Hall during Youth Week, received a resounding thumbs up from the 38 students who attended.

“It was wonderful to host our first Youth Forum at Botany Town Hall and utilise the spectacular chamber,” Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

“The voice of young people is vital for our decision making. I want to thank the many schools and teachers who accompanied their school leaders for a morning of workshops and activities in the Chamber and a shared lunch.

Many new friends were made, and Council now has a great list of suggestions from our local young people.”

The Youth Forum brought together leadership teams from Primary and Secondary Schools in Bayside to workshop ideas on how Council can best engage and support local young people and the types of facilities they are interested in.

The Forum attracted 38 students from 10 local schools who also had the opportunity to share their findings, tour the chamber, get an insight into how local government works, and learn about the history of the Botany Town Hall.

Council is also establishing a Youth Advisory Group, made of local young people aged 12-18, that will play an import role advising Council on youth issues in Bayside.
