Fremantle residents looking to unload their unwanted stuff and do their bit for the environment can sign up now for a stall at this month’s Community Garage Sale.
The City of Fremantle and Town of East Fremantle are once again joining forces to host the annual event as part of the 2019 Garage Sale Trail – Australia’s biggest reuse and community event.
The Garage Sale Trail will see more than 400,000 people rummaging through over 2 million items for sale at around 15,000 garage sales across the country.
Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said the Garage Sale Trail supported the City’s One Planet target to reduce waste and achieve a 70 per cent community recycling rate by 2020.
“The Garage Sale Trail is a great way to get rid of all those unwanted items that are lying around the house without sending them off to landfill,” Mayor Pettitt said.
“It’s a people powered movement that’s all about how the small actions we make as individuals can make a big difference to the planet and our local community.
“It’s completely free to book a stall, but people need to hurry because there are now less than 15 booths left up for grabs and they fill up quickly.”
East Fremantle Mayor Jim O’Neill urged all residents to get involved in both buying and selling.
“East Fremantle has great record as the leading recycling local government in the metro area,” Mayor O’Neill said.
“We all look forward to a successful day and I thank the council staff for their hard work on the Garage Sale Trail.”
The Fremantle Community Garage Sale will be held at the City of Fremantle’s recycling centre on Montreal Street on Saturday 19 October from 8am-1pm.
In previous years stallholders have sold goods ranging from kitchen items and furniture to pot plants, vinyl records and second-hand clothes.
Combi Coffee will be brewing, Wild Side food truck will provide delicious eats, Buster It’s All About Play will be there for the kids, and the City’s FOGO team will be there to answer all your questions on the new Food Organic Garden Organic recycling system.
Garage Sale Trail is a run by Australian not-for-profit social enterprise Garage Sale Trail Foundation in partnership with over 140 councils around the country.
Garage Sale Trail seeks to educate Australians on the importance of reuse, and the need to take individual responsibility for the waste we generate, while also building stronger, more connected and more resilient communities
