The Middle Brighton Baths are an iconic piece of Bayside’s history. Originally built in 1881, and rebuilt in 1936 after irreparable storm damage, the facility is one of Bayside Council’s historically significant assets. We’re upgrading the underwater barrier at the Baths to help ensure the protected Bay swimming facility can be enjoyed safely by future generations.
Leased to a private provider, Council is responsible for maintaining the facility, including the underwater steel barriers, which are corroding due to the constant exposure to saltwater.
To help preserve and maintain the facility, we’re upgrading the underwater barrier to help ensure the protected Bay swimming facility can be enjoyed safely by future generations.
We will replace the support timber beams (the “whalers”) that support the steel bars.
We’ll deliver this project to ensure minimal disruption to business operations for the facility’s tenants, and we anticipate no impact to beach access.
Works are anticipated to commence in March 2025 and are expected to be completed by mid-2025.
