Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction
The Tasmanian Government is getting on with the job of helping Tasmanians recover and rebuild from COVID-19.
Labor Shadow Minister for Building and Construction Jen Butler has once again used this pandemic as a means for political gain.
Ms Butler claims that our Government has failed to answer questions on what constitutes an essential worker and says she looks forward to receiving information.
The fact is, Ms Butler was provided this information two months ago.
In correspondence sent by the Premier’s office on 8 May 2020, Ms Butler was not only provided the publicly available information on quarantine conditions for essential travellers on the coronavirus website, but also a direct link to the Direction that supports these rules.
Ms Butler was also clearly informed that the process undertaken to determine classification for essential travellers is conducted by the State Controller at arm’s length from the Government.
Perhaps it would benefit Ms Butler to go back through her emails and she would find the information she falsely claims is being withheld by the Government before she questions the independence of a process she clearly doesn’t understand.
I urge Labor and Ms Butler to stop using the COVID situation as an excuse to take petty political pot shots and get on board with the efforts to recover and rebuild for the benefit of all Tasmanians.
