A big boom is about to make a major splash at the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre with a four tonne mobile bulkhead set for installation on Friday 11 December.
The immense 22 metre by 1.5m fibreglass structure is a pivotal piece of the pool puzzle and will enable the 51.5m competition pool to be split into two 25 metre short courses or water polo courts.
The bulkhead itself comes equipped with air tanks to float on the water surface and allows the competition pool to be used for a variety of activities from regional level competition swimming through to leisure type set ups with inflatables and more.
This important piece of work brings the $57 million facility one step closer to completion and keeps an early 2021 opening date on the cards.
A 100 tonne crane will be set up on Kay Street to install the boom on Friday 11 December which will impact local traffic.
The west bound lanes of Kay Street (immediately outside GRAC) will be closed during works for approximately four hours from 9.30am, or when conditions allow.
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes to avoid Kay Street on this date.
