The Professional Bull Riding (PBR) Grand Finals is in Townsville this weekend, bringing fans from across Australia to the city.
Townsville City Council has provided $70,000 in support to the event – which is expected to attract 10,000 people to the Townsville Entertainment Centre.
Townsville Deputy Mayor Les Walker said major events provide a huge economic boost to the city and create jobs for locals.
“The PBR will bring big bulls and big bucks to our city – the event attracts fans from across Australia and is expected to bring thousands of people to the Entertainment Centre over two nights,” Cr Walker said.
“Those who come from out of town stay in hotels, eat in our restaurants, and visit our local businesses – all of this supports and creates local jobs.
“The event also provides Townsville with international exposure.
“Council will continue to support big events that bring visitors to Townsville, that’s why we contribute financially to events like the PBR Grand Finals and will continue to do so.
“We are the events capital of Northern Australia and its fantastic to have these major events returning to Townsville – I know there will be a great crowd on both nights and I look forward to the PBR returning in the future.”
