³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾

Big future for young Australian historians

The Hon Jason Clare MP
Minister for Education

Today I had the pleasure of attending the 2022 ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ History Challenge Presentation and share in honouring the best young Australian historians.

More than 4,000 students from 500 registered schools submitted entries this year.

Nektaria Toscas, a Year 11 student from Camberwell Girls Grammar School in Victoria, was named the 2022 Young Historian of the Year.

Her essay about European politics was a standout.

Nektaria and other category winners were recognised for their outstanding independent research and critical thinking skills.

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ History Challenge encourages students from primary school through to Year 12 to undertake inquiry-based research and present their findings through essays, multimedia presentations or museum exhibits.

The Australian Government is providing $568,000 to support the History Teachers’ Association of Australia to host the challenge over four years to 2025.
