Earlier this week, Tiny Tom, a long-term resident at RSPCA NSW’s Central Coast Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (BARC) celebrated his 2nd birthday. Unfortunately for Tiny Tom, it was a bittersweet celebration, as the day also marked his 500th day in care.
Tiny Tom, who is affectionately nicknamed ‘Tiny’ by staff, came to RSPCA NSW through our inspectorate when he was just a kitten. Originally a timid boy, he has blossomed into an affectionate, playful and adventurous companion during his stay.
“The staff here at BARC were more than excited to celebrate Tiny Tom’s 2nd birthday,” said staff member Amber Logan-Jones, who has worked closely with Tiny throughout his time in care. “His favourite toy is his rainbow snake wand, so we made his party rainbow snake themed and made him a homemade cake for the occasion, which he loved.”
Tiny currently resides at BARC, which, unlike other RSPCA NSW shelters, is closed to the public. The Somersby site has been operating as a rehabilitation oasis since October 2021 and has been able to create a calmer, more peaceful environment for its residents since minimising the activity of regular visitors.
BARC’s dedicated team provide extra support for animals to ensure they have a successful transition into home life after arriving in shelter. Most of whom, like Tiny, are just needing help with their confidence.
“Tiny Tom’s journey is a testament to not only the resilience of our animals who come to us from tough circumstances but also to the dedication of our volunteers and staff who work hard to ensure each animal knows they are loved and cared for,” continues Logan-Jones.

“We believe that all animals deserve to be celebrated, whether that’s in their forever home or here with us. We know there’s a special someone out there waiting to share their lives with Tiny Tom. We hope this celebration will help find them and that he can celebrate his next birthday in a loving home of his own.”
Tiny Tom would be best suited to a home without young children where he can be the only animal for now. If you would like to make an appointment to meet Tiny Tom you can do so by calling BARC on (02) 4372 2044 or by filling out an expression of interest online.
