More than 3000 attendees including schoolchildren and other jobseekers have already registered for the inaugural Navy and Shipbuilding Careers Expo being held at the Port Adelaide Passenger Terminal from today until Sunday.

Attendees will have the opportunity to board two Royal Australian Navy vessels, the long-range frigate HMAS Warramunga and a Collins class submarine, as well as experiencing high-tech simulators, to learn first-hand what a career in naval shipbuilding or the Navy can offer.

Attendees will gain valuable insights into the pathways for naval and shipbuilding careers coming up as part of the AUKUS agreement as well as other defence industry programs.

South Australia is at the forefront of the largest, most complex naval shipbuilding and Defence projects in our nation’s history that will require graduates with skills in science, technology, engineering, and maths.

These foundational skills are the basis for lifelong careers across a broad range of high paying jobs with organisations looking to employ engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers, tradespeople, ICT professionals and administrators.

Representatives from some of the world’s largest defence industry organisations and tertiary education institutions will be present at the Expo.

Australian Defence Force Careers will also be on hand to showcase careers in the Royal Australian Navy, sharing information about the lifestyle, benefits, locations, and specific roles for interested attendees and potential candidates.

Free public transport is available for attendees on presentation of registration details.

As put by Susan Close

The Navy and Shipbuilding Careers Expo provides a great opportunity for South Australian students and jobseekers to gain valuable insights into careers that will be available through the state’s pipeline of shipbuilding programs including the SSN-AUKUS submarines.

I strongly encourage every young person and jobseeker to take the opportunity to attend the Expo and see first-hand what these jobs will look like.

South Australia is at the centre of our nation’s defence capability and capacity, and I urge young South Australians to get involved in this incredible vocational opportunity.

As put by Blair Boyer

We want to have a coordinated approach to develop high-quality education for South Australian students that draws upon the fantastic partnerships that we have with the defence sector here in SA.

This expo provides students with a great opportunity to help visualise the amazing opportunities that will be available to them in coming years.

We make no apologies for our ambitious agenda in South Australia and the skills workforce that we need to support it – that’s why these expos are so important, to showcase the pathways for young people to have long-lasting and in-demand careers.
