Waverley Council is pleased to announce that construction is set to begin on Monday 29 May on our Birrell Street Renewal project, expected to be completed late July.
The streetscape improvement project between Newland Street, Bondi Junction and Bronte Road, Bondi will enhance safety for pedestrians, motorists and bike riders in the area.
Highlights of the project include:
- 22 new parking spaces
- improved bike routes
- new road surface
- landscaped intersection treatments
- improved stormwater drainage
Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said the project has been informed by feedback to design concepts presented to the community late last year for feedback and endorsed by Council in April 2023.
“The Birrell Street Renewal project is just one of the ways Waverley Council is helping improve safety for all road users in the area and beautifying this lovely part of Waverley,” Mayor Masselos said.
Works will be staged to minimise disruption. Staging details will be known in the coming weeks and published on our website.
Birrell Street is a major road in Waverley, connecting residents and visitors to several community hubs in the east and beyond, including Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte beaches.
Funding for the project was received from the NSW Government’s Regional Roads Program.
