Black spot project set to start on Lockington Road

Campaspe Shire Council is about to start road safety improvement works on Lockington Road, between Diggora and Settlement Roads.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said council received a Federal Government grant of $502,000 through the Black Spot Funding Program.

“The funds will support two intersection upgrades and centreline road marking along Lockington Road, to improve road safety,” Cr Weston said.

“The two intersections with Lockington Road, at Diggora Road and Dingee Road, will both be upgraded to make the intersections more exposed to vehicles. Road centreline marking will be installed along Lockington Road to also improve safety along the section of road.”

“The funding was successful with five major accidents reported across a five year period, meeting the criteria to secure the grant.”

Details of the works include:

  • Lockington Road / Diggora Road intersection – drainage, seal and widen the Diggora Road approaches to the intersection, install splitter islands and give-way signage on Diggora Road;
  • Lockington Road / Dingee Road intersection – drainage, seal and widen the Dingee Road approaches to the intersection, install splitter islands and give-way signage on Dingee Road; and
  • Lockington Road – install centreline road marking along a six kilometre section, between Settlement Road and Diggora Road.

Works will start at the two intersections from Monday, 15 April. As works progress, Lockington Road, between Diggora Road and Dingee Road, will be closed with road detours in place from Monday, 29 April.

Surrounding landowners and emergency services have been notified of the works and road closure.

The project will be completed early June.
