Blacktown City Australia Day Award winners have been honoured with a special presentation by Blacktown City Council.

COVID-19 restrictions had prevented the formal award presentation ceremony being held on Australia Day.

Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM paid tribute to the recipients of the 2022 Blacktown City Australia Day Awards at the year’s first Council meeting, presenting the award winners with plaques and flowers.

Sue Hunter Lawrence accepted her Blacktown City Citizen of Year Award, five-year-old Bryleigh Sunshine Lavender Clarke was awarded the Young Citizen of the Year and Sanjeev Kumar was named Environmental Citizen of the Year.

Mount Druitt Combined Churches was awarded Community Event of the Year for their Christmas Lunch.

Mayor Bleasdale said the presentation was an important opportunity to meet the award winners and recognise their marvellous contributions.

“Although COVID-19 restrictions meant we had to host our Australia Day Awards ceremony online this year, I was delighted to be able to finally congratulate these outstanding citizens in person.

“The contributions to our City made by these recipients stretch far and wide and the awards pay tribute to their hard work during what has been an especially challenging time.

“My fellow Councillors and I are extremely proud of their dedication to their community and their tireless efforts in making Blacktown City an even better place to live, work and play.

“This presentation is yet another sign that we are emerging from the restrictions of COVID-19 and I look forward to returning to our calendar of Council events in a COVID-safe manner,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
