Blockbuster Australian exclusive events to be held in Perth in the coming months, Coldplay and WWE Elimination Chamber, will activate the city and inject millions into the State economy.
Up to 20,000 international and interstate fans were expected to travel to Perth in February for the WWE Elimination Chamber event, which is expected to contribute more than $30 million to the WA economy.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall welcomed the State Government’s focus on securing major events which motivated people to travel to Western Australia.
“Events at venues like Optus Stadium and Perth Arena are an excellent motivator for people to travel to Perth and activate the city. These visitors will often stay for extended holidays, especially in the South West region,” he said.
“The tourism industry is already receiving a high volume of bookings for accommodation and tours around both the Coldplay and WWE events. Tourism Council WA is assisting businesses to on-sell their product to these visitors to maximise their trip to Perth and Western Australia.
“The State Government attracting major entertainment acts is fantastic for the tourism industry and will create jobs in Perth and regional WA.”
Two Australian exclusive Coldplay concerts in November were expected to attract 40,000 out-of-State visitors to WA, staying an average of four nights each and injecting $68 million into the WA economy.
A survey commissioned by Tourism Council WA recently found close to 70 per cent of Western Australians supported State Government investment in major entertainment acts to attract visitors to WA and create jobs and economic diversity.
