‘Blue Heelers’ to kick off AFL’s ANZAC Round against ADF in women’s curtain raiser, NSW

NSW Police officers will swap their uniforms for footy jumpers when they take on the Australian Defence Force in a women’s Australian Rules football match in the nation’s capital on Friday.

In a newly formed partnership, in conjunction with the AFL’s Greater Wester Sydney Giants, teams from NSW Police and the ADF will clash in a curtain raiser to the round six fixture between GWS and St Kilda at Manuka Oval.

The match will help kick off the AFL’s highly celebrated ANZAC round.

The current version of the ‘Blue Heelers’ has proudly represented NSW Police at the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships in the men’s competition since 2005, with women’s team joining in 2019.

The clash will be ideal preparation for this year’s ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships to be held in Melbourne this October.

Assistant Commissioner and women’s football patron Gelina Talbot APM, said the squad jumped at the opportunity to be involved in the match.

“To represent NSW Police in celebrating such an important occasion for ANZAC round is a real honour for our female officers,” Ma’am Talbot said.

“NSW Police is excited to join the ADF and the Giants in what we hope is a long-term partnership.

“All three organisations are proud to celebrate the integral role of women in emergency services, the defence force, and Australian Rules football.”
