The Mooloolah track upgrade was funded last year by a $6,369 Sunshine Coast Council major community grant.
Applications for council’s major community grants program are now open and not-for-profit community organisations are urged to seek funding for projects, events and activities which will benefit Sunshine Coast communities.
Suncoast Hinterland BMX Club President Kelly Jull said her club was thrilled to have received funding to carry out the much-needed track resurface.
The club has members aged from three through to their 60s, including many female riders and the track is open to the public.
Ms Jull said the resurfacing would encourage more people to get outside, get active and take part in the healthy pastime.
“We have had a lot of comments about how good the track is looking and the resurfacing has really helped reduce the amount of time we need to spend maintaining the track,” Ms Jull said.
“It has greatly lessened the impact of the recent heavy rain.”
Ms Jull said the club is looking forward to showing off the resurfaced track at an open day on 20 July, which she anticipates will be attended by about 350 riders.
Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay urged not-for-profit community groups to act now and get in the running for a grant before applications closed on 26 August.
Cr McKay said the Major Community Grants Program, Minor Community Grants Program (in Events Category only) and the Environment Levy Grants Program were now open.
“Our not-for-profit community groups play such a fundamental role in building social connections, encouraging participation and volunteering and teaching people new skills. All of these things are critical for creating healthy, smart communities which is why council is committed to this program,” Cr McKay said.
