Boat Ramp Boost For Lake Bullen Merri

  • Minister for Fishing and Boating

Boaters and fishers will have better access to the water at Lake Bullen Merri with an upgrade of the boat ramp facility thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pulford announced today that the Labor Government will invest $25,000 to fund the design work needed to progress an upgrade of the boat launching facility at one of Victoria’s most iconic freshwater fisheries.

The funding for Lake Bulleen Merri has been provided through the Boating Safety and Facilities Program and will deliver a much-needed improvement for the South Beach Boat Ramp.

Last year Lake Bullen Merri received $15,000 from the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Target One Million plan to undertake repair works as a result of storm damage.

The Government’s fudning boost of $25,000 is the first step towards improving boating facilities at Lake Bullen Merri and ensures it remains one of South West Victoria’s premier fishing destinations.

This follows the $47.2 million announced in the Victorian Budget 2019/20 to upgrade boat launching facilities at six popular Victorian boat ramps, scrap fees at boat ramps across the state and review the management of boating facilities in Port Phillip and Western Port Bays.

As noted by the Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pulford

“Thanks to its monster Chinook Salmon and beautiful surrounds, Lake Bullen Merri holds a special place in the heart of Victoria’s boaters and fishers – and this funding will ensure it stays this way for years to come.”

“We’re making sure we can get on with this design work to build a better launching facility for the thousands of fishers and boaters that use this much-loved waterway every year.”

As stated by Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney

“This upgrade will make it easier and safer for people to get out onto the water at Lake Bullen Merri – boosting this iconic waterway for years to come.”
