Human remains believed to be that of a missing elderly man from Lake Macquarie have been found.
The 72-year-old man was last seen at a home at Mount Hutton on Monday 7 November 2022.
Since then, detectives from Lake Macquarie Police District have undertaken several multi-agency searches involving local general duties police, trail bike officers, PolAir, NSW SES volunteers, family and members of the community to locate him.
A number of state-wide public appeals for information were also made through the media and the NSW Police Force’s social media pages.
On Saturday 1 July, a member of the public was bushwalking in the Belmont Wetlands, near the Kalaroo Road fire trails, when they located human remains and personal belongings.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended and established a crime scene.
While the remains are yet to be formally identified, they are believed to be that of the missing 72-year-old man. The remains will undergo forensic testing to confirm the identification.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
