Boosting Organic Recycling In Macedon

  • Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change

Macedon Ranges Shire Council is expanding their kerbside organic waste collection to include food organics and diverting thousands of tonnes of waste from landfill, thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio today visited the Romsey Transfer Station in Macedon Ranges to announce $182,000 in funding towards improving the collection and recycling of organic waste.

The project, worth over $460,000, has the potential to save an estimated 4,864 tonnes of useful organic material from going to landfill and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8,241 tonnes.

This will support Macedon Ranges Shire Council to better divert food and organic waste from landfill, including providing infrastructure to residents such as kitchen caddies, liners and kerbside bins.

The funding is part of the $26 million Resource Recovery Infrastructure Fund, that supports investment in the development of infrastructure to improve collection and reprocessing of recycled materials.

The Labor Government has committed record funding of $135 million to deliver a stronger Victorian recycling sector with over 700,00 tonnes of waste successfully diverted from landfill each year
