The Borough of Queenscliffe has launched a new competition encouraging residents and visitors to shop locally, with 50 gift cards up for grabs for the lucky winners.
The Borough’s ‘3225 Love Local Shop Local’ initiative was first launched in April 2020 to promote small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. To help support traders over the summer tourist season, the Council-funded program is now offering lucky winners the chance to win one of five $50 gift cards every week until the competition closes on 6 February 2022. Borough Mayor Ross Ebbels said competition winners would be able to treat themselves and support a small business at the same time.
“After two years of lockdowns and restrictions, it’s never been more important to support small businesses and shop local,” Cr Ebbels said. “This program offers lucky winners the chance to get $50 off their next local shop and support our community at the same time.”
Victorian residents can enter the competition by visiting the Borough’s 3225 Love Local Shop Local or page and following the instructions to tag a business where they’d like to spend their $50 gift card. Winners will be randomly drawn from entrants, and can spend their gift card prize at any participating small businesses within the 3225 post code. Full terms and conditions are available on Council’s 3225 Love Local Shop Local Facebook page.
The competition is just one of the ways Council is supporting local traders over the summer. A Christmas festival held on Saturday 4 December in the Point Lonsdale shopping village attracted hundreds of visitors, and Council is continuing to waive a number of permit fees and charges for small businesses. Local traders can contact Council’s Business Support team on 5258 1377 at any time for assistance.
