Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday, 8 September.
It’s understood a white Toyota Aurion was travelling east along Bourke Street when the car collided with three pedestrians about 6.20pm
Those three pedestrians, a 26-year-old man from South Yarra, a 23-year-old woman from China and a 35-year-old woman from Docklands have been taken to hospital with two now in a stable condition and the other in a serious.
The vehicle continued to travel east along Bourke Street before colliding with a grey Mazda CX-5 and a Hyundai, at the Russell and Bourke Street intersection.
Sadly, the driver of the Hyundai, a 76-year-old man from Brunswick died at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda CX-9, a 37-year-old man from Diggers Rest, and the 30-year-old passenger, a man also from Diggers Rest, were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A 26-year-old Melton West man was arrested at the scene by three officers who were returning to their station.
He remains in custody and has been taken to hospital under police guard for treatment.
Police do not believe this is a terror related incident.
