Three boys have been arrested after a pursuit in the state’s northwest yesterday.
About 11am (Monday 7 November 2022), officers from Oxley Police District attempted to stop a Hyundai Elantra sedan on Ugoa Street, Narrabri, after checks revealed it had been stolen minutes earlier in Violet Street.
When the vehicle failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.
It will be alleged that the vehicle reached speeds of 105kph in a 50kph zone. Due to safety concerns the pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, police located the vehicle on Violet Street after it crashed into a parked car.
The driver – aged 11 – and two passengers, aged 13 and 16 were arrested at the scene.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the two older boys for minor injuries; they were taken to Narrabri Hospital as a precaution.
The younger boy was taken to Narrabri Police Station and charged with take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, negligent driving and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
He has been granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday 12 December 2022.
Investigations established that the vehicle had been stolen from the carpark of a church.
Inquiries are continuing.
