Bracken Ridge community event serves up snags and police engagement

Bracken Ridge skate plaza became a vibrant hub for community engagement when police from Sandgate PCYC held a drop-in BBQ event late last month.

More than 150 members of the community joined in to enjoy a free sausage sizzle and sample the range of programs offered by locals PCYCs including Sandgate, Pine Rivers and Fortitude Valley.

The event was more than just food and fun, with police taking the opportunity to develop relationships with local residents and visitors and engaging children through ball games and sporting activities.

Senior Sergeant and Youth Club Coordinator of Brisbane Region, Julie Ferguson, said the event was an example of community engagement.

“The event was more than just a gathering, it is an opportunity for police to connect with their local community and foster positive relationships.

“Our youngest attendees loved playing ball with the officers and we even surprised a 10-year-old boy, who was celebrating his birthday at the park, with a brand new football.”
