Brand new police station opened at Longford

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

Longford’s brand-new $5 million police station was officially opened today, giving our police officers and the community a modern and fit-for-purpose facility to be proud of.

The new facility is almost 10 times the size of the old station, which was built in the 1970s, and will serve our police and the Longford community now and well into the future.

On site there is also a $1 million building specifically designed and built for our specialist police resources.

This $6 million investment supports policing services in Northern Tasmania, and has generated significant employment opportunities and benefits for locals.

Construction work began in January 2021, and at its peak the project provided employment for close to 40 local contractors and sub-contractors.

With a focus on ecologically sustainable design, the station build has also included the planting of around 12-thousand plants and grasses.

This station will be an important part of the Longford community and will help to complement and enhance the excellent work of our police officers for many years to come.

The Tasmanian Government has been rebuilding police numbers since coming to Government, by recruiting 308 additional police officers, which is a 30 per cent increase to ensure that Tasmanians continue to remain safe.
