Breach of Covid Directions in Adelaide River

Northern Territory Police arrested a 38-year-old man in Adelaide River yesterday, after he allegedly breached the Chief Health Officers directions having entered the Territory without prior approval.

The man has travelled through rural NSW before entering the Territory at the QLD/NT border control point.

Police arrested the man in Adelaide River after he was found to be non-compliant with directions. During the arrest, the man has injured himself after he fell and hit his head.

The man was taken to Adelaide River Clinic for a medical review due to his injuries.

He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for further medical treatment and a COVID-19 test, before being transferred to Howard Springs Quarantine Facility for quarantining and further investigations to be carried out.

Due to the officers being deemed as close contacts they are now required to self-isolate. The man has since returned a negative result.

Incident Controller Commander Hege Burns said, “Police are investigating the matter and it is likely the man will receive an infringement notice.

“I commend the officers involved who took swift action and were wearing the appropriate PPE to limit the spread of any infection, if the man in fact had returned a positive result.”
