Bringing prized Australian art to regional audiences

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Five innovative exhibitions showcasing works by Australian artists will tour the country with support from the Albanese Labor Government.

Close to $950,000 in funding will see the exhibitions shared with audiences across 34 regional and 9 metropolitan venues.

The grants, which are being awarded under the Government’s Visions of Australia program, will also go towards the development of two future touring exhibitions.

Recipients include:

  • National Exhibitions Touring Support – to tour Between Waves, an exhibition highlighting the breadth and innovation of First Nations contemporary art practices including video, poetry, sculpture and performance, to 7 venues across 4 states and the Australian Capital Territory.
  • Artback NT – to show ceramics works by 35 artists and collectives in Clay on Country – Ceramics from the Central Desert at 9 venues across 5 states and the Northern Territory.
  • Experimenta Media Arts – to develop the Experimenta Emergence exhibition weaving together the work of 12 leading contemporary artists along with writers and thinkers, to be launched in Melbourne and toured regionally.

Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said the funding meant more Australians will have the opportunity to experience and appreciate homegrown art.

“Our new National Cultural Policy, Revive, is all about making sure there’s a place for every story and a story for every place,” Minister Burke said.

“This means increasing access to arts and cultural experiences so that all Australians can participate, regardless of their postcode.

“This funding does just that, bringing Australian art to audiences across the country – particularly in the regions.”
